In Bolivia on Friday, a military air force plane crashed while landing with a cargo of new banknotes, resulting in at least 15 deaths, authorities reported, according to LETA citing AFP/AP.

A military transport aircraft, the C-130 Hercules, overshot the runway while landing at El Alto International Airport near the capital La Paz and ended up on the highway, damaging at least 15 vehicles.

Police attempted to disperse people who rushed to collect the scattered banknotes.

Colonel Pavel Tovar of the National Fire Department reported that at least 15 people died in the crash, and firefighters are collecting the bodies. He did not specify whether the deceased were on board the plane or in the vehicles on the highway.

The plane caught fire, but firefighters managed to extinguish the flames.

The aircraft arrived in La Paz from the eastern city of Santa Cruz, where it took on cargo.

David Espinoza, the president of the Central Bank of Bolivia, stated that the newly printed banknotes had been delivered to Santa Cruz from abroad. He did not disclose the amount of money being transported.
