On Thursday, June 11, the Tallinn City Assembly adopted a resolution stating that from September 1, municipal kindergartens will become free for residents of the capital.
Currently, parents registered in Tallinn pay 50 euros per month for a place in a kindergarten, and 56 euros for a kindergarten with a swimming pool. This fee will be completely abolished from September 1.
To qualify for the fee exemption, both parents of the child or a single parent must be registered residents of Tallinn. Additionally, the child must attend kindergarten for at least ten working days in the two previous months, except in cases of illness.
At the same time, parents whose official place of residence is registered outside the capital but whose children attend Tallinn kindergartens will have to pay more.
According to the current rates, a place in a capital kindergarten for a child from a family registered outside Tallinn will cost 115.41 euros per month, which is 12.2% of the minimum wage. In a kindergarten with a swimming pool, the fee for a place will be 126.75 euros, or 13.4% of the minimum wage.
