Five suspects have already been charged.

Already 11 people have been detained by the French police in connection with the murder last week in Lyon of far-right activist Canten Derank. New arrests were reported to the France-Presse agency by investigative sources. Among those detained is an assistant to a deputy from the far-left party 'La France Insoumise' (LFI), which has faced severe criticism for its ties to ultra-left radicals.

According to Radio France Internationale, the events leading to Canten Derank's death occurred on the evening of February 12 in Lyon, near the Sciences Po Institute of Political Studies. On that day, a conference was held by MEP Rima Hassan from 'La France Insoumise'. Activists from nationalist movements, including members of the group 'Nemesis', protested against her speech. According to media reports, Derank was among them.

At least two clashes occurred between groups of activists near the university building. Videos circulated on social media show several people striking three participants in the conflict. One of the injured remains lying on the ground motionless. Far-right activists claim that Derank is the one captured in the footage.

After being beaten, the 23-year-old student managed to leave the scene and, with the help of an acquaintance, reached the riverside in the fifth arrondissement of Lyon. There, passersby called an ambulance upon noticing his serious condition. The young man was hospitalized, but two days later, on February 14, he died from head injuries. The prosecutor's office subsequently reclassified the case as 'intentional homicide'.
