China could stop Russia's war against Ukraine with one phone call, said U.S. Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker on Friday at a panel discussion at the Munich Security Conference, LETA reports citing MEDUZA.
“China could call Vladimir Putin and end this war as soon as tomorrow,” the diplomat's words are quoted by Bloomberg.
According to Whitaker, China could halt the supply of dual-use products to Russia and stop purchasing Russian energy resources.
It is China that “makes this war possible,” the diplomat emphasized.
Cooperation between Russia and China in many areas has expanded since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. In particular, Chinese components are widely used in Russian drones.
At the same time, Beijing insists that it wants to play a constructive role in ending the war.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met this week in Munich with his Ukrainian counterpart Andriy Sibiga and offered humanitarian aid to Ukraine.
