Russian equipment for the NPP was damaged during unloading in the port of Alexandria.
In the port of Alexandria, equipment for the under-construction El-Dabaa nuclear power plant (NPP) was damaged. The incident occurred during unloading.
"At this moment, it is premature to draw final conclusions about the nature of the damage and the technical reasons for what happened. A commission has been formed in the established manner to assess the consequences of the incident, involving representatives from the plant, the general contractor, and the Egyptian customer," the media reports, citing Rosatom.
The damaged equipment was not part of the reactor and was intended for the non-nuclear circuit of the plant. It is also reported that as a result of the emergency situation, one person sustained injuries incompatible with life and died.
"El-Dabaa" is the first nuclear power plant in Egypt, which will be built by Rosatom in the Matruh province on the Mediterranean coast. More than 10,000 Russian and 15,000 Egyptian specialists are involved in the construction. In 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah el-Sisi launched the construction of the fourth power unit of the NPP.
