On Tuesday, nine people were shot dead in the town of Tumbler Ridge in British Columbia, including seven at the local secondary school and two in a residential home, reported the federal police of Canada, according to LETA citing AFP.

A man believed to be responsible for these murders was also found dead. He died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Canadian media reported that the shooter was a woman, however, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police did not provide detailed information about the suspect.

As a result of the shooting, 27 other people were injured, two of whom sustained serious injuries, while the lives of the remaining 25 are not in danger.

Police reported that on Tuesday afternoon, information was received about an active shooter at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School.

During a search of the school, authorities discovered six people who had been shot. Another injured person from the school died on the way to the hospital.

Police also found a second location related to the incident — two more victims were found in one of the houses.

Tumbler Ridge, with a population of 2,400, is located more than 1,100 kilometers north of British Columbia's largest city, Vancouver.
