Reuters: The EU wants to punish the ports of Georgia and Indonesia for operations involving oil from the Russian Federation.
The European Union has decided for the first time to impose sanctions on the ports of third countries for operations involving Russian oil. This was reported by Reuters, citing a draft of the 20th sanctions package against Russia that the European Commission submitted to the member states of the union.
The ports in question are the Georgian terminal of Kulevi and the Indonesian port of Karimun. Additionally, banks in Tajikistan, Laos, and Kyrgyzstan are at risk of being included in the restrictions. Another measure in the new package is the blacklisting of 42 tankers.
Previously, the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, promised that the 20th package of anti-Russian sanctions would include a complete ban on maritime services related to the supply of Russian oil.
Furthermore, there will be a complete ban on maintenance and other services for gas tankers and icebreakers to undermine gas export projects.
