Russian citizen Lyubomir Korba, suspected of attempting to assassinate General Vladimir Alekseev, has been detained in Dubai, announced the Federal Security Service of Russia. They also named possible accomplices. Alekseev has regained consciousness.
A citizen of Russia, Lyubomir Korba, suspected of attempting to assassinate the First Deputy Chief of the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation (formerly GRU) Vladimir Alekseev, has been detained in Dubai. This was announced on Sunday, February 8, by the Public Relations Center of the Federal Security Service (FSB) of Russia.
According to their information, the arrest was made with the assistance of partners from the UAE. The man, born in 1960, has been handed over to the Russian side. According to the FSB, Korba was the "direct executor of the crime," reported the Interfax agency.
The FSB claimed that there were also accomplices who were Russians: Viktor Vasin, born in 1959, who was detained in Moscow, and Zinaida Serebritskaya, born in 1971, who left for Ukraine. The search for the organizers is ongoing, the special service added.
Assassination Attempt on Alekseev
The attack on the 64-year-old lieutenant general occurred on February 6 on the 24th floor of a residential building on Volokolamskoye Highway, where he lived, reported Svetlana Petrenko, a representative of the Investigative Committee (IC) of the Russian Federation. An unknown assailant fired several shots at Alekseev and fled the scene. The general sustained injuries to his limbs, abdomen, and chest, causing significant blood loss, and he was taken to the intensive care unit of one of Moscow's hospitals. He underwent surgery.
The IC of the Russian Federation has opened a criminal case under articles on attempted murder and illegal circulation of firearms, Petrenko stated. According to The Insider, residents of the building complained in a chat that the cameras in the entrance were not working.

Lieutenant General Vladimir Alekseev was seen in a video address to Yevgeny Prigozhin during the Wagner mutiny in the summer of 2023. It was Alekseev who urged them "not to succumb to provocations." According to media reports, he personally supervised a new private military company that is supposed to replace the Wagner Group.
Since December 2016, Alekseev, who is originally from Ukraine, has been under US sanctions due to cyberattacks carried out before the American presidential elections. In 2019, he was also included in the EU sanctions list due to the poisoning of double agent Sergei Skripal in Salisbury.
