Ecologists are sounding the alarm: dangerous pesticides have been widely found in apples sold in EU countries.
According to a study by the non-governmental organization PAN Europe, harmful chemicals have been detected in the overwhelming majority of tested fruits, including products from Poland.
Analysis of nearly 60 apple samples from 13 European countries showed that only 7% of them do not contain hazardous compounds. In 85% of cases, experts found pesticide residues, and in 64% of samples — substances from the PFAS group, which are characterized by high persistence and the ability to accumulate in the body. Neurotoxic components, potentially harmful to the nervous system, were additionally found in every third apple.
Particular concern is raised by the pesticide flu di oxonil, detected in almost 40% of samples. It can disrupt the endocrine system and have toxic effects on the liver and kidneys.
According to representatives of PAN Europe, modern studies increasingly link the regular consumption of products with pesticide residues to the risk of infertility and cancer.
Campaign participant from PAN Europe, Gergely Simon, notes that feeding children fresh traditional fruits or vegetables significantly increases their exposure to pesticides compared to processed products, sometimes by more than 600 times.
