The head of EU diplomacy, Kallas, called for a discussion on Europe's nuclear deterrence.

The EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, stated the need to initiate a Europe-wide discussion on its own nuclear deterrence. This was reported by the Finnish newspaper Helsingin Sanomat.

According to the publication, Kallas described nuclear weapons as the only real means of deterrence, while also noting the serious risks associated with their proliferation. This statement came in the context of debates about Europe's security and its dependence on U.S. nuclear guarantees.

It was previously reported that European countries are considering the creation of their own nuclear weapons amid disputes with the U.S. over Greenland. According to sources, EU countries are discussing several options, including: enhancing French nuclear weapons, relocating French bombers capable of carrying nuclear weapons outside the republic, and strengthening armed forces on NATO's eastern flank.

There is also discussion about equipping European countries that do not possess nuclear weapons with the technical capabilities to acquire them. It is noted that such a step would not violate the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), but taking specific measures, such as producing highly enriched uranium, would constitute a breach of agreements.
