On Saturday, explosions occurred in several areas of Iran, local media report, writes LETA citing DPA.
In the port city of Bandar Abbas on the coast of the Persian Gulf, one person was killed and 14 others were injured as a result of an explosion, reports the news agency Tasnim.
Eyewitnesses report at least one explosion near the capital — Tehran.
In Ahvaz, in the southwest of the country, four people died as a result of a gas explosion, according to the online publication Nur News, citing the head of the fire service.
The Tasnim agency denied rumors that the explosion in Bandar Abbas was an assassination attempt on the commander of the naval forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Alireza Tangsiri.
The state agency IRNA published a photograph showing the partially destroyed facade of a multi-story residential building.
The causes of the explosion have not yet been established, the agency notes.
Soon, naval maneuvers of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps will begin in the Persian Gulf. Russia and China will also participate, and they will last for three days.
The maneuvers are taking place against the backdrop of U.S. President Donald Trump sending an aircraft carrier strike group to the region.
