Another train accident in Spain: a wall collapsed on it

On Tuesday, a railway accident occurred in the northeastern region of Spain — Catalonia — resulting in one death and 37 injuries, LETA reports citing DPA.

A new accident occurred two days after the collision of high-speed trains in the southern region of Spain — Andalusia, where at least 42 people died.

According to regional emergency services, the deceased was the train driver. Photos published by local media show the severely damaged front of the train.

About 20 ambulances, as well as dozens of paramedics and emergency service personnel, were dispatched to the scene near the town of Gelida, located east of Barcelona.

The accident happened during a severe storm and downpour when a retaining wall collapsed onto the railway tracks, striking a passenger train on the R4 line of the Rodalies railway network. Trains on this route are usually overcrowded on weekday evenings.

Previously, another passenger train on the Rodalies network, traveling on the R2 line, derailed after a landslide near the town of Blanes in Catalonia. The train lost an axle, but there were no reports of injuries in this accident.

On Tuesday, rescue services in Catalonia also discovered the body of a man in a car that was swept away by floodwaters in the usually dry riverbed near the village of Palau-Sator.

Authorities declared a red alert in some areas of Catalonia due to storm "Harry," which brought strong winds and heavy rains. People were warned to stay away from ports and beaches due to high waves.
