A Spark from the Campfire Nearly Left a Pensioner Homeless: The Fire in Imanta Was an Expensive Lesson 0 10

A fire occurred on Cerinu Street in Imanta, reports the Degpunktā program (TV3).

According to preliminary information, the blaze started after a spark from a campfire, which was lit in the yard during the cleanup, landed on a nearby residential house.

Smoke soon appeared over the building.

The fire was noticed by a man working nearby. According to him, an elderly woman lives in the house, and she was landscaping the area that day. Piled branches of thuja, which were planned to be burned, still remained near the house.

By the time firefighters arrived, the fire had already spread to the attic. As a result of the fire, part of the slate roof was torn off, and the roof structures were severely damaged.

The State Fire and Rescue Service reported that the attic of a two-story residential building with an area of about 100 square meters was burning. Before the rescuers arrived, three people had evacuated the building on their own. Thirteen firefighters and three fire trucks were involved in extinguishing the fire.

Thanks to the prompt actions of the rescuers, the fire was contained before it spread to the living areas. Most importantly, no one in the house was injured.

However, the material damage was significant. According to witnesses, the building will now require serious repairs, and the situation is complicated by the fact that the house was not insured.

This case once again reminds us of two important safety rules. First, even a small campfire can cause a major fire, especially in dry and windy weather. Second, insuring property can be the only financial protection in such situations.

For the homeowner, the desire to tidy up the area has turned into costly consequences that will now have to be addressed on her own.
