Restrictions on fuel sales have been introduced in at least 53 regions of Russia and in the occupied territories of Ukraine. At several gas stations, gasoline is sold in limited volumes, sales in cans are prohibited, and some gas stations temporarily accept only cash.

Problems with fuel supplies in Russia continue to expand. According to journalists, restrictions on the sale of gasoline and diesel fuel have already affected at least 53 Russian regions, as well as the territories of Ukraine occupied by Russia.

Only cases confirmed by publications in regional media were counted.

The restrictions have affected not only border areas or the European part of the country but also remote regions. For example, the authorities of the Khabarovsk Territory explained the situation by seasonal and unscheduled work at oil refineries.

The region's governor, Dmitry Demeshin, stated that after the completion of the sowing campaign, enterprises traditionally undergo maintenance, calling what is happening "an annual practice."

Meanwhile, the largest gas station networks have begun to impose their own restrictions. According to the publication "Verstka," gas stations of "Rosneft" and TNK have prohibited the sale of gasoline in cans and limited the volume of fuel sold to 90 liters per customer.

Temporary restrictions were also announced by the company "Tatneft." They explained the measures by increased seasonal demand for fuel.

For ordinary motorists, this means that refueling in some regions may take more time, and acquiring a fuel reserve becomes more difficult.

In addition to limits on fuel sales, some regions have introduced restrictions on payment methods. Some gas stations temporarily serve customers only for cash payments.

The first reports of gasoline shortages began to arrive in late May from Crimea. Then problems were recorded in the Belgorod and Kursk regions, as well as in the occupied territory of the Luhansk region. Later, disruptions began to be noted in Moscow, the Moscow and Leningrad regions, the Krasnodar Territory, and Buryatia.

One of the reasons for what is happening is attributed to the consequences of attacks by Ukrainian drones on oil refineries in the European part of Russia. Such strikes regularly lead to temporary shutdowns of individual production capacities and disruptions in logistics chains.

The situation resembles events from the fall of 2025, when after a series of attacks on oil refineries, Russia faced large-scale disruptions in fuel supply.

While authorities and oil companies describe the situation as temporary difficulties, the geography of restrictions continues to expand, covering more and more regions of the country.
