Belgium's Prime Minister De Wever: The EU may lose its dignity due to concessions to the U.S.
The European Union (EU) risks losing its dignity if it continues to unconditionally yield to the United States. This warning was issued by Belgium's Prime Minister Bart De Wever at the economic forum in Davos.
"I think Europe is at a crossroads: ...if we yield now, we will lose our dignity," said the head of the Belgian government. He noted that until now the EU has tried to "appease the new master of the White House" and has been "lenient" on trade tariffs, but now the United States has crossed too many "red lines."
Earlier, Belgium's Defense Minister Theo Francken mocked the famous slogan "America First" in light of U.S. President Donald Trump's statement about imposing tariffs on European countries over Greenland.
"On the day the slogan 'America First' turns into 'America Alone,' the West will lose, including the United States itself. And on a grand scale!" wrote the head of the defense ministry on social media platform X.
