On Monday, the annual World Economic Forum (WEF) begins at the Swiss ski resort of Davos, which will also be attended by Latvian President Edgars Rinkevics, reports LETA.
This year, the focus of the WEF will apparently be on U.S. President Donald Trump, who recently caused another geopolitical shock by threatening to impose additional tariffs on imports from several European countries if they oppose his plan to take control of Greenland.
There may also be a meeting between him and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in the forum's corridors.
This year, the forum will gather around 3,000 representatives of the world's political, economic, public, and scientific elite. Trump is expected to address them with a speech on Wednesday afternoon.
This will be Trump's fourth participation in the WEF and the third time he is attending as President of the United States.
He will be accompanied by a delegation of high-ranking officials, including U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessen, Commerce Secretary Howard Latnik, as well as Trump's special envoy Steve Witkoff and advisor Jared Kushner.
Overall, around 400 guests are expected in Davos, who, according to international law, are entitled to special security, including 64 heads of state and government.
Zelensky hopes to meet with Trump in the forum's corridors to sign an agreement on providing Ukraine with security guarantees, but it is still unclear whether this meeting will take place.
The White House informed AFP that no bilateral meetings are currently scheduled in Davos.
At the same time, it is reported that Trump is considering holding the first meeting of the so-called World Council on Gaza in Davos.
Rinkevics is scheduled to participate in several discussions during the forum, meet with leaders of foreign and international organizations, as well as business representatives. Several interviews with international media are also planned.
