Europe is preparing retaliatory sanctions against the USA

The European Union is considering imposing tariffs against the USA amounting to €93 billion or restricting access for American companies to the European market in response to Trump's threats against NATO countries opposing his campaign to seize Greenland.

This is reported by The Financial Times, citing officials involved in preparing the countermeasures.

The restrictions are necessary for Europe to have leverage during key meetings with Trump at the World Economic Forum in Davos, the sources clarified.

According to them, most European countries are calling for dialogue with Trump before directly threatening retaliatory measures.

As FT writes, the finance ministers of France and Germany are set to meet in Berlin on Monday and then head to Brussels for a meeting with their European counterparts.

"This issue will also need to be discussed with all G7 partners under the chairmanship of France," one source added.
