Vucic compared Maduro's capture to Milosevic's overthrow.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic compared the capture of Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro by the United States to the overthrow of former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic. His words are reported by the Serbian publication "Politika."
"We had such 'liberators' in 1999, who set location markers (for NATO airstrikes) across our country, and in 2000 (after the overthrow of former President Slobodan Milosevic on October 5 — note from 'Lenta.ru') they came to power and destroyed the country. They fired all the workers, ruined everything," said the politician.
Milosevic led the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia from 1990 to 2000. In 2001, the overthrown leader was handed over to the Hague Tribunal, and in 2006, the politician, who was under investigation, passed away in a Hague prison.
At the same time, Vucic expressed sympathy for the people of Venezuela, noting that the restoration of the country will be extremely difficult. He also stated that after the actions of the United States in Venezuela, it became clear that the UN Charter and international law are no longer in effect.
