On Tuesday, more than 100,000 residents of the Moscow region were left without electricity due to a fire at a substation that broke out after a Ukrainian drone attack, LETA reports citing DPA.
The administration of the city of Ramenskoye reported that the power outage was caused by a cable fire; however, at the same time, information was received about a large-scale attack by Ukrainian drones on the Moscow region.
The outage also affected residents of Zhukovsky and Lyubertsy. Authorities stated that they are working to quickly eliminate the consequences.
On Tuesday evening, the Russian army announced that it had shot down more than 100 Ukrainian drones within four hours.
Most of them were shot down in the Bryansk region, which borders Ukraine, while eight drones were shot down in the Moscow region, three of which were heading towards Moscow, according to the Russian army's statement.
Later, Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin reported that other drones had been intercepted. Due to the attack, Moscow airports were forced to temporarily suspend operations.
Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine by Russia in February 2022, Moscow has regularly struck Ukraine using drones, missiles, and cruise missiles. In response, Ukraine has increasingly struck deep into Russian territory, primarily targeting oil and gas infrastructure to disrupt the supply of fuel to the Russian army and limit Russia's war funding.
However, analysts note that the damage and number of civilian casualties from Ukrainian strikes are significantly lower than those resulting from Russian attacks on Ukraine.
