During negotiations with Ukraine, 95% of issues were agreed upon, with 1-2 points remaining to be discussed, U.S. President Trump stated after a meeting with Ukrainian President Zelensky on Sunday in Florida.
Zelensky, for his part, stated that 20 points of the peace plan were agreed upon 100%.
Territorial Issue
Trump acknowledged that the territorial issue "has not been fully resolved." Regarding Donbas, "we need to coordinate positions, but it seems to me that everything is moving in the right direction," Trump stated.
In turn, Zelensky said that "our teams have come closer together," responding to a question about whether Kyiv agrees to a demilitarized zone in Donbas. He noted that "it is necessary to adhere to the Ukrainian Constitution." According to Zelensky, "a referendum can be one of the keys to this lock."
Trump believes that "the parliament or a referendum should agree on this issue." "But the population is clearly in favor of stopping the fighting," the U.S. president is convinced.
Trump also stated that new Ukrainian territories may be captured in the coming months, so "it is better to make a deal now." "We talked to Putin about the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant. And he is ready to work together with Ukraine, ready to make it open," Trump said.
When will they agree?
A decision on all six documents of the peace plan may follow as early as January, Zelensky stated. In turn, Trump added that "if everything goes well, it will take up to several weeks."
"But everything may not go well," as there were disagreements on some points during the negotiations, noted the U.S. president. Trump also stated that "Europe will take on a large part of the security guarantees for Ukraine."
From the unexpected
"Russia wants to see Ukraine successful. Putin was very generous for the success of Ukraine, for example, by selling energy resources at low prices... Russia is ready to participate in the reconstruction of Ukraine. Russia wants Ukraine to succeed," Trump stated.
