Due to a technical malfunction, the reactor at the Forsmark Nuclear Power Plant, located north of Stockholm, has been temporarily shut down, Swedish media reported on Tuesday morning, according to LETA citing DPA.
Local media cited a statement from the nuclear power plant operator, Vattenfall, which reported that work is underway to address the malfunction in the first reactor of the Forsmark Nuclear Power Plant.
According to information on the operator's website, maintenance for this reactor was completed last week.
Sweden has three nuclear power plants with six reactors, three of which are located at the Forsmark plant. They generate approximately 30% of the country's electricity.
The first reactor of the Forsmark Nuclear Power Plant, located about 130 kilometers north of Stockholm, was commissioned in 1980.
The conservative government of Sweden and its supporting right-wing populist party, the Sweden Democrats, agreed to expand nuclear energy even before coming to power in the fall of 2022.
The Swedish government views nuclear energy as an important component of the transition to a more environmentally friendly future.
