A Pakistani court on Saturday sentenced former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife to 17 years each in prison for misappropriating a luxury state gift, LETA reported citing DPA.
The decision of the special court was announced during a hearing right in the Rawalpindi prison, where 73-year-old Khan has been in custody for over two years.
Pakistani legislation allows for the retention of state gifts provided a certain amount is paid. Khan is accused of keeping a set of 'Bulgari' jewelry, paying only a fraction of its market value.
The new prison term will begin after the current 14-year sentence, also imposed for corruption charges.
Imran Khan served as Prime Minister of Pakistan from 2018 to 2022 until he was ousted by a no-confidence vote in parliament.
