The U.S. is preparing a new sanctions package aimed at Russia's energy sector if Russian President Vladimir Putin rejects a potential peace agreement with Ukraine, reports Bloomberg citing informed sources, as noted by LETA.
According to Bloomberg, the U.S. is considering sanctions against the vessels of Russia's shadow fleet used by Moscow to transport oil, as well as against traders facilitating such operations.
A new sanctions package may be announced as early as this week.
U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessen discussed these measures earlier this week during a meeting with a group of European ambassadors, Bloomberg reports.
The final decision, according to agency sources, will depend on U.S. President Donald Trump.
