Turkey Concerned About Attacks on Vessels in the Black Sea

Turkish authorities are concerned about attacks on vessels in the Black Sea. This is stated in a statement by the official representative of the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

"The incidents that occurred in Turkey's exclusive economic zone in the Black Sea have created a serious threat to navigation safety in the region," the statement emphasizes.

The country's Minister of Transport and Infrastructure reported that on the evening of November 28, two tankers were attacked in the Black Sea, one of which caught fire. After inspecting the first and extinguishing the fire on the second, they were towed to the nearest Turkish ports.

The crew of the burning vessel was brought ashore by Turkish rescuers.

Ukrainian media are publishing video recordings of the attack and report that it was a joint operation by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and the Ukrainian Navy.

The vessels were sailing empty to the Russian port of Novorossiysk for loading. Both tankers are under Western sanctions.

"The SBU continues active actions to cut off Russia's financial capabilities to wage war against Ukraine. Sea Baby marine drones disabled vessels that could transport oil worth nearly $70 million and helped the Kremlin circumvent international sanctions," an informed source in the SBU told RBC-Ukraine.
