Ukraine has agreed to accept the U.S. peace plan, but details still need to be agreed upon, an American official told CBS News.
The Ukrainian delegation is also in Abu Dhabi today, where American negotiator Driscoll is discussing an updated version of the plan with Russia.
"The Ukrainians have agreed to a peace agreement. There are some minor details that need to be worked out, but they have agreed to a peace agreement. We maintain great optimism. American negotiator Driscoll is optimistic. We hope to receive a response from the Russians soon. Everything is moving quickly," said the source.
At the same time, the American official stated that Putin is confident he will capture the entire Donetsk region – either through negotiations or on the battlefield. Americans believe that Putin is right, which they communicated to Ukraine in Geneva.
However, Ukraine's agreement alone is not enough for a ceasefire. Now the Americans need to negotiate with Moscow. Talks with Kremlin representatives in Abu Dhabi began yesterday.
