Americans Did Not Allow Europe at the Negotiating Table on Ukraine's Fate – The Washington Post

The U.S. and Ukraine have not yet agreed on the final version of the peace plan, and its discussion is based on U.S. proposals rather than Europe's, reports The Washington Post.

Overall, Europe is "not at the table" in the negotiations between Kyiv and Washington, the publication writes.

European proposals were deemed "helpful," but the Americans are focused on the original document as the basis for discussions, the source explained. It is worth noting that Europe suggests removing all key points for Russia from Trump's plan – primarily, the withdrawal of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from Donbas.

Currently, Europeans have no clear picture of what is being discussed between the U.S. and Ukraine, a European diplomat reported. "We are not at the table. We are trying to get to the table, but at the moment we are facing some refusal from the Americans," the diplomat added.

The publication confirms that at the negotiations in Geneva, the original list of points was reduced, but overall the document is not fully agreed upon.

In particular, Ukraine and the U.S. could not agree in Geneva on the issue of withdrawing the Armed Forces of Ukraine from Donbas and on Kyiv's aspirations for NATO. This is reported by Ukrainian media citing sources.

Washington Urges Zelensky

Supporters of Trump's peace plan in Washington believe that time is working against Kyiv, The Washington Post writes.

The publication presents their opinion that Zelensky needs to accept the proposed document as soon as possible, otherwise Ukraine faces further territorial losses.

"People trying to derail this deal simply want the continuation of the war. There is a persistent illusion that the U.S. has huge stockpiles of ammunition that can be dumped into Ukraine, that there is a magic package of sanctions that will force Russia to end the war, and that Ukraine can continue the war until it achieves complete victory. This is not the case, so the constructive path is to consider some realistic proposals put forward by American officials," stated Dan Caldwell, a former Pentagon official who worked on Ukraine issues during the Trump administration.
