Nearly 300 million people in Africa will face acute hunger by 2030.
Nearly 300 million people will face acute hunger in Africa by 2030 due to food shortages. This forecast was made by Simona Ashlimann, head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) delegation in Ethiopia.
"In 26 countries, food prices have more than doubled in the last four years as climate change damages crops, disrupts livestock grazing, and destabilizes the food system. This trend is evident in Africa, where the cumulative impact of these factors has led to one in four people on the continent facing food shortages," she stated.
According to Ashlimann, families in Africa continue to cut back on food consumption. As a result, nearly 300 million people on the continent will face acute hunger by 2030.
