The U.S. peace plan to end the war of the Russian Federation in Ukraine may be agreed upon by all parties by the end of November or even "this week," writes Politico.
Washington is preparing to announce a peace agreement that, according to American officials, is expected to end the war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, reports Politico correspondent Dasha Burns from the White House on Wednesday, November 19. A senior official in President Donald Trump's administration told her that an agreement among all parties is expected by the end of the month - possibly "as early as this week." Politico recalls the unexpected visit to Kyiv by U.S. Army Secretary Dan Driscoll, who was set to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Following that, the Ukrainian president traveled to Ankara for talks with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. In turn, the Axios portal reported that the U.S. and Russia are working on a secret 28-point peace plan for Ukraine - for discussions on which Russian President's special representative Kirill Dmitriev flew to Miami at the end of October. Officials in the Trump administration indicated to Politico that they are "on the verge of a significant breakthrough."
However, Ukraine apparently did not participate directly in the development of the peace plan - nor did the U.S. European allies, emphasizes Politico. And it remains unclear what solutions the document proposes on the most painful issues - the Russian Federation's seizure of Ukrainian territories, the abduction of Ukrainian children, and future security guarantees for Ukraine.
The White House plans to present the peace deal to Zelensky as a done deal, claims Dasha Burns. "What we are going to offer Ukraine is reasonable," she quotes her source from the U.S. president's administration. They believe that Zelensky, under pressure from the difficult situation at the front and the corruption scandal, will be forced to accept the terms, writes Politico.
