Fire in Kazakhstan: 12 Dead, Including 9 Children

In southern Kazakhstan, 12 people have died in a fire, including nine children, reports the LETA agency, citing DPA and the news agency Tengrinews.

Three people who were unconscious were rescued from the burning building, the publication reports, citing emergency services.

The fire occurred in the village of Algaabas in the southernmost part of the country. The nearest major city is Tashkent, the capital of neighboring Uzbekistan, located about 100 kilometers from the site of the tragedy.

A two-story residential building was on fire.

According to eyewitnesses, there were many guests in the house after a celebration, Tengrinews writes.

An investigation is underway.

Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev promised support to the affected families.
