At the same time, Russia has also targeted Ukrainian energy facilities ahead of winter.
Ukrainian forces struck an elite Russian special unit stationed on an oil platform in the Black Sea.
As a result of the strikes, a crew operating anti-tank missiles was eliminated, and reconnaissance equipment on the drilling rig "Sivash" was destroyed, the Ukrainian Navy reported.
It is worth noting that the "Sivash" platform is one of four offshore installations known as the "Boyko Towers," including "Petro Hodovanets," "Tavrida," and "Ukraine," which were seized by Russia following the annexation of Crimea in 2014.
According to The Telegraph, after the seizure of the platforms in 2014, Russia equipped each of them with reconnaissance and electronic warfare equipment, as well as hydroacoustic systems. This allowed the Russians to monitor surface, aerial, and underwater activity in the northwestern part of the Black Sea between Crimea and Odessa.
The publication noted that the attack on the drilling platform followed a series of strikes on Russian energy facilities.
Journalists reminded that a few days ago, the Ukrainian Navy carried out missile strikes on two key Russian facilities – the Orlovskaya TPP and the "Novobryanskaya" substation. According to Ukrainian military sources, both targets supplied electricity to enterprises associated with the Russian defense industry.
Shift Towards Weakening Russia
The increasing attacks by Ukraine on Russian energy facilities and military bases deep within Russia signify a strategic shift aimed at weakening Moscow's ability to wage war.
At the same time, Russia has also targeted Ukrainian energy facilities ahead of winter. On land, as the publication noted, the Russians continue to advance in eastern Ukraine.
According to the American Institute for the Study of War, in October, Russia captured 461 square kilometers of Ukrainian land, primarily in the Donetsk region. The publication noted that Russia currently controls 81% of the territory of the Donetsk region.
War in Ukraine: Strike on the "Boyko Towers"
Earlier, the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine struck an elite Russian special unit located on the drilling rig "Sivash" in the Black Sea.
The military explained that the Russians are spreading video allegedly showing the destruction of a Ukrainian Navy boat by a "Lancet" munition, but in reality, it was Ukrainian forces successfully using a kamikaze drone.
