In Severodvinsk, at the shipbuilding enterprise "Sevmash", a ceremony was held for the launch of the nuclear submarine "Khabarovsk". The solemn event took place under the leadership of the Minister of Defense of Russia, Andrei Belousov, reports the Russian Ministry of Defense.

The new submarine is a standard carrier of the "Poseidon" complex. The system is based on a nuclear power installation.

The ceremony was also attended by the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy, Admiral Alexander Moiseyev, the General Director of the United Shipbuilding Corporation, Andrei Puchkov, and the head of "Sevmash", Mikhail Budnichenko.

The nuclear submarine "Khabarovsk", designed by the Central Design Bureau of Marine Engineering "Rubin", is intended to solve tasks for the Navy using modern underwater weapons, including robotic systems of various purposes.

Belousov thanked the designers and shipbuilders for their diligent work, adding that the submarine is set to undergo a cycle of sea trials.

The submarine was first mentioned in November 2015 during a presentation of the "Status-6" system, where "Khabarovsk" (Project 09851) and K-329 "Belgorod" (Project 09852) were considered as the main carriers of the system. The project is classified, and data in open sources differ and often contradict each other.

The submarine will join a new division being formed in 2024–2025 in Kamchatka.

As part of a working trip to Severodvinsk, the minister also visited the "Zvezdochka" ship repair center, where he checked the progress of repairs and modernization of strategic missile carriers and multipurpose nuclear submarines. Following the visit, Belousov held a meeting with the fleet leadership and industry enterprises on issues of construction, repair, and modernization of underwater vessels.

In addition, the Minister of Defense was presented with the ice-class patrol ship "Ivan Papanin". As reported by Moiseyev, the vessel is intended for operation in Arctic conditions both independently and as part of Northern Fleet groupings, significantly enhancing the fleet's capabilities in the region.

Earlier, the nuclear submarine cruiser "Arkhangelsk" successfully launched a missile at a naval target in the Barents Sea during the "West-2025" exercises. Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that Russia has a strategic advantage due to nuclear submarines operating in the Arctic. The head of state emphasized that defense capability issues are largely related to the development and use of northern latitudes.
