Russian military have entrenched themselves in almost all areas of Pokrovsk. There is still a corridor about five kilometers wide for the Ukrainian army, through which supplies can be brought in and the wounded evacuated. This is reported by analyst Julian Röpke in the pages of the German publication Bild.
According to him, more than 1,000 Ukrainian soldiers are holding the defense within the city, some of whom have found themselves behind Russian positions. The enemy forces outnumber the Ukrainians ten to one and have significantly greater firepower.
The author writes that the Russians have achieved success because there are not enough soldiers on the Ukrainian side, and the defense was too weak. This allowed Russian troops to penetrate through kilometer-wide gaps in the rear of the Ukrainian lines.
"The Russians have created chaos with their infiltration strategy. Now no one knows where our troops are and where the enemy is. This leads to disorder, an unclear front line, and even friendly fire," a Ukrainian officer told the publication.
