Chinese leader Xi Jinping has dismissed nine senior military officials. This was reported by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) citing a representative of the Chinese Ministry of Defense.

According to the publication, the military officials were removed as part of a new campaign to combat corruption and strengthen loyalty within the ranks of the Chinese armed forces. Among those dismissed was one of the country's most influential generals, He Weidong, for "serious disciplinary violations and abuse of power."
