Residents of Russia Should Live in Poverty for the Sake of Birth Rates - Deputy from United Russia 0 384

State Duma Deputy Oleg Matveychev stated that the population should live in poverty to improve demographics. He urged to forget the dogma that improving material conditions will solve the problems with birth rates.

Matveychev pointed to "world experience" and noted that "the better people live, the fewer children they have."

"The highest birth rates are in poor countries, and the lowest are where people are wealthy," said the Russian deputy, calling it a lie that families will start having children if they are given apartments and benefits.

Matveychev expressed outrage that women choose careers. "What kind of successful person is it who has no children?" the parliamentarian pondered.

"We have slogans like live in the present, get everything out of life. And what children can there be if you live in the present, get everything out of life, and build a career?" stated the deputy from the ruling party United Russia.
