The HAMAS group cannot guarantee disarmament, which is part of U.S. President Donald Trump's plan to end the war in Gaza. This was stated in an interview with Reuters by Mohammed Nazal, a member of the movement's political bureau.
"I cannot answer either yes or no [to the question of disarmament]. Honestly, it depends on the nature of the project. What does the disarmament project you are talking about mean? To whom will the weapons be handed over?" questioned Nazal, adding that the weapons would help HAMAS "maintain control over security" in the Gaza Strip during the transitional period.
Nazal emphasized that disarmament and other issues to be discussed in the next stage of negotiations concern not only HAMAS but also other armed Palestinian groups. For this reason, in his opinion, a broader discussion will be required to develop a unified position.
