At least 23 people have died in Mexico this week due to heavy rains, authorities reported on Friday, according to LETA citing AFP.
The Civil Protection Service reported intense precipitation in 31 out of 32 states in the country. The most affected areas are the state of Veracruz in eastern Mexico, as well as the states of Querétaro and Hidalgo in the central part of the country and the state of San Luis Potosí in the north.
In the state of Hidalgo, 16 deaths have been reported, along with damage to 1,000 homes.
In the state of Puebla, five fatalities have been registered, and another 11 people are reported missing.
A minor was killed in Veracruz, and a police officer died in Querétaro.
"We are working to support residents, restore roads and power supply," said the country's president, Claudia Sheinbaum, on social media platform X after meeting with local officials and members of her government.
The army will be deployed to distribute aid in the disaster-stricken areas.
