Norway to Tighten Tariffs Due to Refusal to Award Trump the Peace Prize - The Telegraph

U.S. President Donald Trump may tighten import tariffs for Norway due to the refusal of the country's Nobel Committee to award him the peace prize. This development was predicted by the British newspaper The Daily Telegraph.

In addition to increasing trade tariffs from the current 15 percent, the American leader may also persuade other countries not to buy Norwegian oil and gas and to limit contacts with the country's authorities.

Oslo has already warned that the Norwegian Nobel Committee is independent from the authorities. As stated by former member of the Norwegian Parliament from the Progress Party, Christian Tybring-Gjedde, Trump may be "truly convinced that the Norwegian government is responsible for awarding the peace prize, and this is very dangerous for the country." Norwegian historian and author of the book "Nobel: The Great Story of the Peace Prize" Øyvind Stenersen added that there is a certain nervousness in Oslo, as it is unclear how Trump will react if the prize is awarded to someone else.

The American leader has already tried to pressure the Norwegian Nobel Committee — he claimed that he has "solved" six wars, emphasizing that it would be an insult to the United States if he does not receive the award.
