Drones were discovered in the industrial zone of the Tyumen microdistrict of Antipino, where a large refinery is located. This is the first such incident in the Tyumen region, which is approximately 2000 km from the borders of Ukraine, writes DW.
In Tyumen, three drones were discovered and neutralized on the territory of one of the enterprises in the Antipino microdistrict on the night of Tuesday, October 7, the Tyumen regional government reported on Telegram. According to authorities, there were no explosions or fires, no injuries were reported, and the operations of neighboring enterprises were not interrupted.
Information about the drones was received by emergency services around 11:00 PM local time. Specialists prevented detonation, the regional government clarified.
First Drone Attack on Tyumen Region
This is the first case of a drone attack on the Tyumen region. Regional authorities did not specify whether the drones had Ukrainian origins. The distance from the border with Ukraine to Tyumen is about 2000 km. Ukrainian military officials also did not confirm an attack on the region in Western Siberia.
The Ukrainian OSINT project Exilenova+ reported that a refinery located near the Antipino microdistrict was damaged as a result of the attack. The Tyumen Oil Refinery of the company "Rusinvest" (formerly known as Antipinsky Refinery) is located there. The enterprise has been operating since 2014, processing up to 1.2 million tons of oil per year and specializing in the production of diesel fuel, fuel oil, and bitumen. Since 2020, the refinery has been included in the raw material supply system from "Rosneft" fields.
In the daily report of the Russian Ministry of Defense on Ukrainian drone strikes in Russian regions, there is no information about the attack on Tyumen. The report states that on the night of October 7, Russian air defense intercepted and destroyed 184 Ukrainian UAVs over more than 10 regions of Russia, as well as over the Black Sea and annexed Crimea. One of the intercepted drones was heading towards Moscow, Russian military officials clarified.
Ukrainian Strikes on Russia's Oil Infrastructure
Since summer, Ukraine has regularly struck oil refining enterprises on Russian territory. According to estimates by Reuters, several major refineries have been disabled or damaged as a result of such attacks, reducing oil processing in Russia by 17%.
Against the backdrop of the attacks, a fuel crisis has intensified in Russia: gasoline prices have hit record highs, hundreds of gas stations have closed, and restrictions on fuel sales have been introduced in several regions. The export of gasoline and diesel abroad has been suspended at least until the end of 2025.
