Polish President Karol Nawrocki (in the photo) signed a decree on Friday to utilize units of the Polish Armed Forces to assist the border service. This was reported by the press service of the National Security Bureau of Poland.
According to the decree, additional units of the Polish army will be deployed to "ensure the inviolability of the state border" in the areas of border crossings on the border with Germany and Lithuania.
The military will be present there from October 5 to April 4, 2026 – the period during which Poland will extend border control with the two mentioned countries.
By a separate order, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has instructed the involvement of soldiers from the Military Gendarmerie to assist the border service at the border with Germany until the temporary border control measures are lifted.
Border control with Germany and Lithuania was introduced in Poland on July 7. This week, it was extended until April 4, 2026.
As part of the renewed border control with Germany and Lithuania, Polish border guards, supported by police and military, may stop selected vehicles for inspection.
According to the Polish government, this is necessary to reduce the uncontrolled flow of migrants.
