Scaffolding Collapses at Ethiopian Church — At Least 30 People Dead 0 25

Hundreds of worshippers gathered at a church in the town of Areti, located in the Amhara region, to celebrate a religious holiday despite ongoing renovation work, a doctor at a local hospital reported.

According to the state broadcaster EBC, scaffolding that did not meet construction standards was erected around the church's 50-meter walls. Some worshippers climbed onto the scaffolding for a better view of the proceedings, which led to the collapse of the structures, trapping dozens of people underneath.

Rescue services worked until late Wednesday evening to free those trapped under the rubble.
