An assassination attempt on Bashar Assad has been made in Moscow; he was taken to the hospital

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported an attempt to poison former dictator Bashar Assad, who is hiding in Russia. According to sources, he was taken to the hospital.

Former Syrian leader Bashar Assad, who fled to Moscow after the regime was overthrown with Kremlin support, has found himself at the center of a major scandal there in Russia. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported a possible attempt on his poisoning, as reported by Dialog.ua.

According to the organization, Assad was discharged from a hospital on the outskirts of Moscow on September 29. Throughout this time, he was accompanied only by his brother Maher Assad and former Secretary General of the Presidential Administration Mansour Azzam. Currently, the condition of the ex-dictator is assessed as stable.

Human rights activists claim that the aim of the assassination attempt was to put the Kremlin in an awkward position and hold it responsible for eliminating an ally. Who exactly was behind this attempt remains unknown.

Russia intervened in the Syrian war in 2015, saving Assad's regime. However, the cost has been enormous — according to human rights activists, from 2015 to 2024, nearly 7,000 innocent Syrians, including more than two thousand children, have died from Russian bombings.

Today, Syrians are demanding that Moscow acknowledge war crimes, apologize, hand Assad over to justice, and pay compensation to the victims of the war.

Experts remind us that poisonings in Russia have long become part of the political landscape. The attempt to eliminate Assad, even if unsuccessful, symbolically adds to this series, once again placing the Kremlin under a shadow of suspicion.
