When it comes to vacationing in Spain, the first cities that come to mind are Barcelona, Madrid, Seville, or Valencia. This country is one of the most popular vacation destinations in Europe, so you might want to visit not only the typical sunny cities.
According to experts, there is one city in Spain worth knowing about, namely Logroño. Time Out has recognized it as the most underrated city in the country and a popular spot for tasting the best tapas (a well-known snack in Spain) on the continent.
It is noted that this city is the capital of the famous wine region of La Rioja, located south of San Sebastián in the Basque Country (an autonomous community in Spain on the Bay of Biscay coast).
"One of the most popular activities here is enjoying the culinary masterpieces offered by the numerous restaurants located along the picturesque streets of Logroño," adds the Mirror.
Tourists are also struck by the traditional architecture of the city, as the ancient gates and the incredible cathedral add to its charm. Additionally, in the old town, the Plaza del Mercado is considered one of the best places to enjoy food and drinks.
"History lovers will appreciate the Muralla del Revellín, once a fortified city, where they can view the remnants of medieval walls and an ancient arch that served as the entrance to the city," adds the Express.
It is known that the parliament and government of La Rioja are also located in the old town, so if you are interested in architectural landmarks, be sure to visit the Church of San Bartolomé and Calle Portales, which was built in the 15th century.
"La Rioja remains one of the most popular wine tourism destinations. It is estimated that tourism brings 155 million euros to the local economy annually," emphasizes the Mirror.
