The Most Powerful Rocket in the World Has Launched Again: SpaceX Tested Starship After a Seven-Month Pause 0 14

SpaceX conducted a new test launch of the Starship rocket — the most powerful space system in the world.

The rocket launched from the company's launch site in Texas, briefly entered space, and then landed in the Indian Ocean. After the flight was completed, the company announced: "Landing confirmed!".

The main objective of the test was to verify the updated design of the rocket and its behavior during flight. During the mission, the third-generation Starship performed a complex maneuver — briefly assumed a vertical position and reignited its engines to regain control.

The rocket also deployed 22 satellite prototypes into space. Two of them attempted to photograph the thermal protection shield of Starship so that engineers could analyze its condition after the flight.

The mission did not go completely without issues.

During the flight, one of the engines failed, causing the rocket to deviate slightly from its calculated orbit. Additionally, the Super Heavy booster fell uncontrollably into the Gulf of Mexico after separating from the upper stage.

Importantly, this was the first flight of Starship in nearly seven months. The launch was initially scheduled for Thursday but was postponed due to technical issues.

Despite the individual failures, SpaceX considers the test an important step forward. The company is actively preparing the system for future crewed missions.

Starship is being developed as a fully reusable space system. NASA is relying on it for the first crewed flights to the Moon since 1972. In the future, SpaceX plans to use Starship for missions to Mars as well.

The company is currently under particularly close scrutiny also because SpaceX is preparing for a potential public offering. According to media reports, the initial public offering could take place as early as June.

Starship is considered a key project for Elon Musk and a central part of his plans for Mars colonization.
