Tonight, the Night of Museums kicks off in Latvia — one of the largest cultural events of the year. More than 246 museums and cultural venues across the country will participate in the events.

The Night of Museums will take place across Latvia today — a traditional cultural event during which museums, exhibition halls, manors, and other venues will be open to visitors until late evening and night.

This year, more than 246 locations across the country are participating in the events.

The theme of the Night of Museums is "The Adventures of an Object."

The organizers explain that the idea is related to Rainis' thought that even the most ordinary object could once have been something valuable and important.

The main goal of the event is to engage those people who usually do not visit museums.

Many places have prepared special programs — night tours, exhibitions, concerts, creative workshops, and interactive activities.

Importantly, most of the events will be free, although some specific events may charge a fee.

The Night of Museums has long become not only a cultural but also an urban event in Latvia — for many, it is an opportunity to spend an evening in an unusual atmosphere, discover new places, or visit museums that usually lack time to explore.

The event includes not only museums but also libraries, cultural centers, historical manors, and some government institutions.

The Night of Museums is being held in Latvia for the 22nd time.

The international event originated in France in the late 1990s and later spread throughout Europe. Now, the Night of Museums events take place simultaneously in many countries and are timed to coincide with the International Museum Day.

The organizers recommend planning routes in advance, as large queues may form in popular places in the evening.
