NASA: the Orion spacecraft of the Artemis II mission has reached halfway to the Moon.
The Orion spacecraft of the Artemis II mission has reached halfway to the Moon. This was reported on the official NASA program page on the social network X.
"We are halfway there. At the time of this post, the Artemis II mission is approximately halfway to the Moon," the post stated.
The message also clarified that upon arrival at the destination, the astronauts will perform a flyby of the Moon and collect scientific data about its surface.
On the night of April 2, a single-use Space Launch System (SLS) heavy rocket launched from Launch Complex 39A at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, carrying the Orion spacecraft with NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen. As part of Artemis II, the crewed spacecraft will leave low Earth orbit for the first time in over 50 years and make a relatively close flyby of the Moon.
