The model allowed for the creation of videos with sound, including dialogues.
A message about the closure of the Sora app, which allowed users to generate videos with sound based on text descriptions, appeared on the official Sora account on the social media platform X.
The reasons, as well as any other details, are not specified, but in the post, the Sora team thanked users and stated that more detailed information about the application's operational timeline, API access, and ways to save generated content would be provided later.
OpenAI first introduced a generative model for creating videos from text descriptions in February 2024. It allowed for the creation of high-quality videos with minimal artifacts, a resolution of up to 1920×1080, and a duration of up to one minute.
The updated second version, released in September 2025, enabled the creation of videos with sound, including dialogues.
In addition to its own website, the project launched applications for iOS and Android, which allowed users to view content generated by others and use it to create their own videos.
At the time of its closure, the app had only been operational for about six months.
