Nut Found to Be Beneficial for Reducing Inflammation in the Body

Consumption of almonds reduces inflammation in the body in obesity.

Daily consumption of almonds may reduce inflammation in the body among people with obesity. This conclusion was reached by researchers from the University of Missouri after conducting a six-week randomized clinical trial. The results of the study were published in the journal Nutrients.

The experiment involved 69 adults with obesity aged 30-45 years. One group of participants was asked to consume 57 grams of almonds daily, while the other group had a snack in the form of cookies with the same caloric content. Participants continued to adhere to their usual diet and lifestyle.

After six weeks, individuals who regularly consumed almonds showed decreased levels of several inflammatory molecules in the blood — IL-6, TNF-α, and IFN-γ. These substances are associated with chronic inflammation, which often accompanies obesity and increases the risk of diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. Meanwhile, the participants' weight, blood sugar, cholesterol levels, and blood pressure did not change significantly during the experiment.

According to the scientists, the effect may be related to the composition of almonds. The nuts are rich in unsaturated fats, fiber, vitamin E, and minerals that can support the immune system and reduce inflammatory processes. The authors of the study note that including almonds in the diet may be a simple dietary element that helps reduce inflammation associated with obesity.
