NATO approved iPhone and iPad for storing classified data.
Apple smartphones have been approved by NATO for storing classified information. This is stated in a message on the iPhone manufacturer's website.
Devices from the American brand — iPhone and iPad — were approved in the North Atlantic Alliance (NATO) guidelines after being tested by the Federal Office for Information Security of Germany. Apple explained that the fact of such approval allows storing classified information on the devices without the need to install separate software.
"Before the advent of the iPhone, secure devices were only available to experienced state and corporate organizations," noted Apple Vice President Ivan Krstic. According to him, "the most secure Apple technologies" are freely available worldwide.
Representatives of the IT giant emphasized that the Apple software that received certification is available to users in the iOS 26 update. "This approval seems to reinforce some of Apple's marketing claims about security," reacted journalists from Engadget to the news.
