The U.S. Air Force Airlifted a Nuclear Reactor for the First Time

The C-17 aircraft was used to transport the Ward 250 nuclear reactor.

The American military transport aircraft Boeing C-17 Globemaster III was used for the first time to transport the small modular nuclear reactor Ward 250. This was reported by the publication TWZ.

The portal notes that as part of the mission, the unfuelled nuclear reactor was airlifted for the first time. The flight of the reactor, encased in a plexiglass shell, from California to Utah took one hour. This event took place as part of the U.S. administration's efforts to deploy nuclear energy across the United States.

"Nuclear microreactors are seen as a way to disconnect critical bases from centralized power grids, but they can also have a significant impact on civilian energy production," the publication writes.
