Short codes are used to manage certain functions of phones. The authors reported that many of them were created by smartphone developers, while others were made by mobile operators. Generally, most of them are not tied to a specific device or platform. In the article, the journalists revealed the most useful of these codes.
For example, by entering the code *#06#, one can check the IMEI — the unique serial number of the smartphone. If you add the code *67 before the subscriber's number, the caller's number will not be visible on the recipient's device screen. Entering *#07# will display legal information on the screen.
The authors mentioned that iPhone users can access a menu with advanced settings by entering 3001#12345#. The testing panel, on the other hand, works only with Android — it is accessed using the code ##4636##. Finally, the code 27673855# resets all settings on the Android smartphone. The journalists urged users to proceed at their own risk, as entering the code will also erase all data from the device.
